The history of the Stollen

604 years ago the Auracher family decided to hew a gallery in the Kufstein Festungsberg or fortress mountain. It took four men more than 19 years to complete the construction work. Rivers of perspiration, wine and beer flowed to achieve the task. Once the "Kufstein refrigerator" had been completed, ice from the Hechtsee lake and the Kaisergebirge were stored here at a constant 8° Celsius until 1896.

The cool atmosphere was absolutely necessary for brewing beer and for storing perishable gourmet goods. As time went on the Auracher family died out. Technical progress did not favour the gallery and by virtue of other more efficient methods of cooling parts of it became unusable and fell into oblivion. Attempts to revitalise it remained unsuccessful. It served only as a dark storage space.
Finally R888 and MG99 recognised the potential and the value of the "hole", which everyone had written off. A vision was created. Detailed planning was implemented with a sense of purpose and work began on its renaissance.
Sleepless nights, countless stumbling blocks on the path and one or two drops of condensed water on the gallery ceiling (but not in your drink) made it into the venue it has become:
THE MOST UNUSUAL AND YET MOST HONEST BAR FOR MILES AROUND.
Cheers! Enjoy the time you spend here and let yourself be seduced and/or intoxicated by the (classic) drops!
