Kufstein fortress
invites you on a journey through time
As one of the most popular excursion destinations in the Alps, the much heralded “Pearl of the Tyrol” with its “Kufstein Fortress” has long secured its place on the winner’s rostrum.
The Kufstein fortress, elaborately renovated some years ago, symbolises the much admired and diverse jewel of this kingdom and its many different attractions has a magnetic effect on those interested in culture and history.
The Heroes’ organ
The Heroes’ organ in Kufstein is the largest free-standing organ in the world. It was built in 1931 by the organ builder Oskar Walcker in the citizens’ tower in the Kufstein fortress.
It boasts 4307 pipes, 46 registers and 4 manual playing aids.
The console of the Helden organ is located at the foot of the fortress.
The organ is played in memory of the dead of the two world wars and can be heard throughout the whole town.
