History

1900

There was once the Auracher Löchl,

which got its name from a long established Kufstein family named “Auracher”.

This family had lived in Kufstein since the 13th century and owned a brewery. The foundation stone of the house was laid around 1410-1436. At this time a hole (called a Löchl – a little hole) was made in the mountain where the fortress stood. This tunnel, which was about 90 metres long, was used to store the ice needed for brewing the beer. In 1448 an adjoining alehouse was built that bore the name still used today, “Auracher Löchl”.

In 1809 Kufstein was burnt down. The Auracher Löchl miraculously escaped the inferno.

By 1896 the Auracher family had supplied the town with 10 mayors and owned many of the buildings in and around Kufstein. Unfortunately they omitted to ensure their succession so the Auracher family line became extinct.

After this the Neuhauser family ran the Auracher Löchl very, very successfully until it was sold to the Hirschhuber family.

In 1992 the Zillertal businessman, Raimund Hirschhuber, fell in love with the Auracher Löchl and bought it. His son Richard Hirschhuber succeeded him and in 2003 took over the Auracher Löchl. Placing the emphasis firmly on quality Richard Hirschhuber intends to make the hotel an even bigger attraction and welcome both locals and friends from far and wide. The entire team’s uppermost aim is to attract and charm visitors. This task is supported at management level by Richard Hirschhuber´s friend & business partner Werner Maloccu.

Through the song, “Kufsteiner Lied” by Karl Ganzer (published by the effel Verlag, Munich), the Auracher Löchl has become known far beyond the Tyrolean borders. Karl Ganzer was the house musician employed at the Auracher Löchl and, merry with wine, he composed this world famous and best selling folk song.

The Tyrolean inn and wine tavern Auracher Löchl, with its cosy Tyrolean rooms unchanged since 1809 and quaint rock cave, hopes you will want to pay us frequent visits.
